A Summit County grand jury has returned a one-count indictment against the former Lakemore village administrator, charging him with theft in office.Chad S. Pryor, who was suspended from his job in September and fired the following month, is accused in the indictment of using his public office to aid in the commission of the alleged theft. The value of property or services stolen, according to details in the indictment, is more than $1,000 but less than $7,500.After Pryor turned himself in to authorities Dec. 12, police said the amount of money involved was about $1,300.Police said Pryor, 38, kept money from the sale of two fire department garage doors and used a village credit card to buy gas for his personal vehicle between May 2010 and September 2011.Springfield Township police Sgt. Eric East and Lakemore Mayor Mike Kolomichuk said at the time they expected more charges against Pryor as the investigation continued. If Pryor is convicted of the lone felony charge, he could face a prison sentence of six to 18 months and a maximum fine of $5,000.However, under the state’s new sentencing law, which went into effect Sept. 30, judges must give probation to first-time, nonviolent, lower-level felony offenders.Pryor’s attorney, Michael T. Callahan, said it would be premature to comment on the indictment because he has not received the evidence after filing a discovery request last week.Callahan previously said Pryor was permitted to use the village credit card for gas and that the other allegations were politically motivated because Pryor did not get along with the village administration.Pryor was paid about $57,000 per year for serving as administrator and zoning inspector, a village official said. He had worked for Lakemore since 2008.Ed Meyer can be reached at 330-996-3784 or at emeyer@thebeaconjournal.com.
